About Slemker Auto Care, LLC
Hello, I'm Tony Slemker and I want to thank you for visiting our new website. Please fill free to contact us with any further questions.

I grew up in Trotwood, Ohio; there I attended Trotwood Madison High School. While I was attending school my father on the side from his other job sold used cars. I helped fix the used cars and shadowed my father almost everyday. I tried taking in as much information as I could. My father had connections in the industry and decided to send me to shadow and learn more from his connections.

After graduating High School, I went to a trade school in Columbus, continuing to work on cars in my spare time. From there I went to Millwright Trade where I learned about assembling large equipment and welding. I was there for almost six years. I furthered my education by going to AC Delco Schools, Ford/GM Training, and Sinclair.

I then opened my own shop, renting a 2 car garage on Wolf Creek in Trotwood, Ohio, calling it Slemker Service. After a little over 2 years, business was so busy that I was running out of space. I then purchased my own building right down the street and named my business Slemker Auto Care.

Slemker Auto Care has provided the Dayton area with excellent and dependable service for almost 30 years. I am involved with Trotwood Historical Society, Northmont Chamber of Commerce, Trotwood Chamber of Commerce, and WACO Historical Society in Troy.

Testimonials

"Last year when we made the decision to lease and run our own yard truck, maintenance was high on the list for concerns, but having Tony Slemker Auto Repair right across the street made that decision easier. Tony has provided a high level of service and excellent turn around for us. Knowing he is a call away, makes our business decision look all the better."

"Finding a skilled, reliable, and honest automotive mechanic is hard. So I feel lucky to have found Tony Slemker! Tony is not only a skilled mechanic who fixes things right the first time, but he is also an honest and straightforward communicator who is not afraid to tell me the truth. After working with Tony for a few years, my car is less of a mystery to me. I understand how things work and that has helped me to make smart decisions about my maintenance and repair costs. And his belief in PREVENTATIVE maintenance has helped me to budget for little projects before they end up costing me more money and time as major repairs. Thanks Tony!"

Towing Information
How should I get my vehicle towed in?
If available to you, use AAA to pick a towing service for you. The phone number for the Dayton office is (937)-224-2841. If you are not a member of AAA you may use any towing company you choose. Please have the tow truck driver see a manager about where to place the car.

Where should I get a rental car?
Depending on the type of repair you may not need a rental car. Should you need one, Slemker Auto Care recommends Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Their phone number is 1-800-261-7331. Click here as well to find one near you.

Where should I park?
You may park anywhere in the lot but please avoid blocking any of our service bay doors-thank you!
Can you give me a ride?
Depending on your destination, we might be able to help you out. We have a small staff and driving long distances is just not an option at this time. If you need a lift down the road to work, home or to the nearby Enterprise Rent-a-Car office, we would be happy to help you out.

How long can I leave my car at your facility?
We prefer that you pick up your car the same day as the completion of work or the next business day. If the vehicle does not leave the premises within 72 hours after completion of work a $7 per day charge will be added to the bill for a storage fee.

Slemker Auto Care is happy to answer any and all questions you may have. If your question isn't listed here please contact Slemker Auto Care and we'd be happy to assist you.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
When should I get my oil changed?
You should get your oil changed every 3000 miles or every 6 months (or as recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual).

Here's the most important reason to have your oil changed at specified intervals: At Slemker Auto Care we take this opportunity to fully inspect all your vehicle's systems - from brakes & tires to transmission & cooling systems. At these typical maintenance intervals we can track your vehicle from one seasonal extreme to the next - for example, the beginning of Summer to the beginning of Winter. Your vehicle systems experience a multitude of different demands depending on the season.

Regular vehicle maintenance can extend the life expectancy of your automobile by over 30%.

Wouldn't you rather have the confidence that your vehicle is up to the challenges ahead, instead of finding yourself stranded due to inattention to important service needs? Remember, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

What does it mean if my "check engine" or "service engine soon" light comes on?
There are many sensors and computerized components that manage your vehicle's engine performance and emissions. When one of these fails, the "check engine" light is illuminated. Although your car may seem to run fine, it is important to have the issue addressed to prevent long-term problems. No need to panic - just make an appointment with us to get your vehicle checked out as soon as possible.

What methods of payment do you accept?
Slemkers Auto Care accepts MasterCard, and Visa. We also accept cash and local checks.

Do you offer discounts?
We offer discounts to military personnel, senior citizens and students (with a valid I.D.) Bring in your church bulletin and receive a discount. We also have special offers for Referring a Friend and filling out our "Safety Questionnaire". See our "Special Offers" page.

Why do my brakes squeak?
It means you're going to crash and your lovely family will suffer a horrible death.

Brakes can squeak for a variety of reasons, but continuous squeals and grinding sounds may mean it's time for new brake pads and shoes. Worn brakes can mean longer stopping distances and difficulty stopping in emergency situations. Rotors and drums that are too thin may even become over-stressed and break. Remember, if you notice any of these symptoms it's a good idea to get your brakes checked.

What types of vehicles do you work on?
At Slemkers we repair all foreign and domestic vehicles - cars, trucks, vans and SUV's. We also service small passenger buses, recreational vehicles and Fleet vehicles. We can service your brand new vehicle keeping your warranty in place, so that if you need to have a manufacturers recall we will arm you with the proper paperwork to get the work done easily and quickly.
What should I do if my car starts to overheat?
This is a very serious problem - if your car overheats for too long, you can damage your engine. As soon as possible, find a safe place to pull off the road and shut the engine off! Do not attempt to check the fluid level in the radiator; the hot fluid can cause severe burns. The best thing to do is have your car towed to Slemker Auto Care.

Should I consider using synthetic motor oil in my vehicle?
Synthetic motor oils can be a good choice for high output, turbocharged or supercharged engines. Or for vehicles that are used for towing (especially during hot weather), and vehicles that operate in extremely cold or hot climates. Although more expensive than mineral-based oils, synthetic motor oils can improve fuel economy and provide longer intervals between changes.

Is it really necessary to replace my timing belt at the recommended interval?
YES. The failure of a timing belt in many cars can result in major engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine with a broken timing belt is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement. Depending on your vehicle a timing belt needs to be replaced between 60,000 and 120,000 miles.

When do I need to replaced my belts and hoses??
If you can see cracks in your belts, it is time to have them replaced. We recommend replacing your belts and hoses at least every three to four years. If your hoses look swollen or soft that could be an indicator that they need to be replaced. However, hoses can deteriorate on the inside and if this happens there is no visual evidence that the hose needs to be changed.

What is the primary cause of tire damage??
Although there are many things that can cause tire damage, improper inflation is the main problem we see. Always keep a tire pressure gauge in your vehicle and frequently check the pressure of all tires.

What is the average life of a battery??
Car batteries commonly last about 5 years. The battery's life on dependent on the environment, the car's charging system and usage. If your battery is more than 4 years old you should have it load tested. This test will indicate if your battery is close to failing.

Do you offer towing service?
We do not offer towing service, however we can assist you in getting your vehicle towed to our shop. If available to you, use AAA or your road side assistance plan to contact a towing [link to "towing page"] service for you. The phone number for the Dayton AAA office is (937)-224-2841.
